Jennifer Bingham Hull is an award-winning author, essayist and journalist.

Hull’s book, Beyond One: Growing a Family and Getting a Life, looks at how a woman’s life changes after the second child. Widely acclaimed, Beyond One won ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Gold Award.

Hull had her first child at 40 and her second at 42. The Midage Mom blog is for older mothers, chronicling what happens when midlife meets motherhood. In it, Hull also writes about her recent experience with anxiety and depression.

Hull’s essays have appeared in numerous publications, including Parenting, Salon.com, Real Simple and on WNYC, New York City’s public radio station. They’ve also been featured in two anthologies: Life As We Know It: A Collection of Personal Essays from Salon.com and Go Your Own Way: Women Travel the World Solo.

With more than 30 years of experience as a journalist, Hull has covered everything from war to Wall Street. She began her career working as a staff writer for The Wall Street Journal and Time, where she reported on business, health care and other domestic issues. As a foreign correspondent, she covered Nicaragua and after the Contra War for The Christian Science Monitor, its TV programs, and other newspapers.

Hull’s articles on women have taken her around the globe. She’s reported on political leaders in Israel and Mexico, accompanied undercover officers posing as prostitutes in San Francisco, interviewed battered women and profiled female refugees seeking asylum.

Many of her parenting articles look at how motherhood shapes women’s lives. In an in-depth segment, Real Simple TV featured Hull’s own arrangement to share domestic duties with her husband.

Hull holds a bachelor’s degree from Denison University and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. She’s made numerous radio and TV appearances and lives in South Florida with her two daughters and husband.

In Beyond One, Jennifer chronicles her leap from one child to two, describing the enormous impact the second child has on a woman’s body, marriage, family life, friendships and work.

“Hull is the kind of woman many moms long to be friends with. . .”
