Readers from around the world share their thoughts on Beyond One: Growing a Family and Getting a Life, Jennifer’s book on life after the second child.
I just finished reading Beyond One a few minutes ago. What a wonderful, wonderful book.
It's a book I never knew I had to read. I had no idea books like that existed! I am so lucky to have found yours at the midwife's office & library!
I love how you have put all the experiences that are simultaneously mundane and exhilarating into stories. They are real and truthful . . . and great.
Thank you very much for your work.

I have just finished reading your book for the second time and just wanted to say thank you. Hearing of your challenges and words of wisdom has made me feel so much better about my challenges.
So many books offer advice that only works if you have one child. As the mother of a 6-month-old and 3-year-old this is not so helpful.

I just bought your book "Beyond One" and am loving it. I have two boys, Steven 2 and Ross who is 11 months and your book hits home. I just wish I would have found it before Ross came. You have done a wonderful job at portraying what life with two is like. Thank you for writing this wonderful book. I am recommending it to anyone who is pregnant with their second child.

Thanks for a great book. I'm just days away from the arrival of our second child, and I have just finished reading your book for the second time.
The first time I read it I was in my first trimester, looking for friendly advice on having two kids that I wasn't finding from my friends. I found that advice/insight in your book and it relieved a lot of anxiety I was feeling about the unknown.
This week, I read your book again just to remind myself what I'm up against (and what I can look forward to).
Like you, I'm a freelance writer, working out of my home office, so we have many things in common. I think this made your book even more relevant for me.

I wanted to say Thank You for writing such a great book. I completely see myself in every chapter of the book and I find myself laughing out loud because it is reminds me so much of myself.
We still only have one little girl and I wanted to read your book before taking the plunge with 2 kiddos and I am so happy I did! I feel a bit more prepared for 2 than I did a few weeks ago. I plan on passing it along to friends who are expecting their 2nd and wondering how will they ever survive.

I read your book after having my second child and so much of what you said rang true for me too. There are so many ups and downs for especially the first nine months afterwards. My second child is now one, and my first child is three. Things are definitely getting a bit easier. But, we still have many a toddler/baby meltdown. You wrote with such candor, it was refreshing to read such honesty for a change in a baby book! Thank you!

Thanks so much for writing such a good book. It is a book that is truly in tune with the modern mother who is closer to being a forty something than a thirty something and has had a full life prior to becoming a mother. I'm still unsure if I'll pursue having a second child, but at least I'll know what I can expect if I do choose to take that road.

I'm 16 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child...my oldest is 10 months old. Reading your book had my husband and I in stitches we were laughing so hard, especially at your description of colic and your thoughts on it because we experienced those same thoughts and feelings with our first when she went through it. Thank you for writing a down-to-earth, honest book about adding an addition to an already crazy household!"

I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed reading your book. I laughed out loud and cried some tears! I am 3 months pregnant with our second child (#1 will be just about be 3 when this one is born) and I felt like your book has given me some realistic things to think about as well as some goals to work towards (5 & 3 comes to mind!). I am also encouraging my husband to read this book as I think it will help him to understand the emotions that women feel when they have children!
Again, thank you so much for writing this book - it was a delight to read and I will recommend it to all my friends!
Thank you so much for writing such a fantastic book! It made me laugh through my morning sickness while bringing me to tears on several occasions. Not since I was single and read 'Bridget Jones Diary' have I enjoyed a book so much. I'm only very sad that I've finished it. You are a very gifted writer. I look forward to your next arrivals. Thank you.

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed Beyond One. . . I saw so much of myself in the book and it gave me ways to articulate some of the issues I'd been thinking about. . . What I most appreciated was the honesty with which you described everyday life. I finished your book feeling confident that we could handle having two kids if we wanted to; that we would make it work. Beyond One is the perfect blend of realism and optimism.

LOVE your book. Our situation is different in that we have a 2.5 year old from Korea who has recently been joined by a 13 month old from China. Try that mix - the 2.5 er is too old to not care and too young to listen; the 13 month-er is old enough to be mobile and know what she wants and doesn't want. Your essays have kept me sane these last couple of weeks and made me realize I'm not the only one who finds this impossible sometimes. Thank you!
